Rallied in front of DTI office in Makati City urging DTI Secretary Manuel Roxas II to reveal the government’s position in the WTO 5th Ministerial Meeting in Cancun, Mexico next month. The KMP are calling on government to “Reject Cancun Meeting! Get Out of WTO!”

A Roundtable Discussion on the Philippine position on the WTO Ministerial Meeting in Cancun. Sponsored by the Institute of Political Economy in cooperation with the Congressional Committee on Globalization and Bayan Muna.  Speakers came from the Philippine government's Departments of Trade and  Industry and Agriculture, the Congressional Committee on Globalization, the private sector's National Economic Protectionism Association, the Institute of Political Economy and Bayan and Anak Pawis.

Struggle-Workers' Commission, ANIB (alliance of progressive professionals and  anti-imperialist workers), Kilusang Mayo Uno (May First Movement - the national center of progressive workers), Courage(organization of progressive government employees), and the All UP Workers' Union. Mobilization at the US-Embassy with the People’s Campout Against WTO. However, during a simultaneous protests/activities nationwide on September 10, we expect more than twenty thousand participants.

the  Philippines), Kadamay(organization of urban poor people),                      Amihan(organization of rural women), National Federation  of sugar workers, and Courage (organization of progressive                      government employees).

 

This will consist of an address by the Vice-President of  the Philippines, by a VCD presentation on the People's                      Resistance Against the WTO and Imperialist Globalization, by Professor Jose Ma. Sison, general consultant of the International League of Peoples' Struggle; cultural presentations; input by a worker leader on "The liberalization of  Trade and Investment and the General Agreement of Trade in Services; input by a party list representative on "Critique on the Govt's position in the WTO Ministerial Meeting and  the Bayan Muna Legislative Action Against WTO; workshops on "The Effects and Incoming Disaster Under WTO" by  affected sectors of peasants, workers, fishers, women and  children, government employees; cultural night and film showing; conference declaration, unity statement and call to action.                         This will be capped by a mobilization of an estimated number of 5,000 in front of the US Embassy in Metro Manila.
